How to record a remote podcast using Detail

This is a steb-by-step guide for recording a podcast with a guest in a different location

Updated today

With the Multiplayer feature in Detail, recording a conversation with anyone in the world is as easy as sending a link to them to connect with you.

Step 1: Start your recording project

Open Detail on your iPhone or iPad and start a new project. This is also a good time to set up your device where you want it to be to record you.

Note: you will be recording yourself with the selfie camera, so make sure to toggle to that view in the project.

Step 2: Send your link

Your guest will be able to access the call from any web browser – on their laptop or phone. They do not need to be on an iPhone or Apple laptop.

  1. Tap the Multiplayer icon (πŸ‘€+) top right corner on your project view

  2. This will open a connect menu, tap "Share Invite"

  3. Choose how you'll send your invite – you can send via email or messenger app

Step 3: Connect

Your guest will tap or click the link and be taken through a simple set of steps to join in their browser.

  • If they also have Detail on their phone they have the option to open Detail to record and they will also have a copy of this recording.

  • If they don't have Detail they'll just join from their web browser – no download necessary.

Note: the quality of their video might seem low resolution, but don't worry, this is because you are seeing a preview of the video and the high-quality file will be synced to your device when the recording is complete.

Step 4: Record & Sync

When you're ready, hit record. When the recording is done, you'll need to wait for the syncing process to be complete before editing.

Make sure that both you and your guest keep the connection open until syncing is complete otherwise this will interfere with the syncing.

To see the syncing process, tap the Multiplayer icon again.

The app will notify you when the syncing is complete.
