How to download any video from the web into Detail
Updated over a week ago

Detail 4.4.2 adds the ability to download any video from the web into Detail to edit, transcribe, or record over.

Download a video from your favourite video app using iOS share sheet

  1. Choose the video you'd like to import from your favourite app, tap the Share button. This may look slightly different from one app to another.

  2. Choose the Detail app from the share sheet. In some cases, you may need to tap "More" to show additional options.

  3. Once the Detail app launches, choose whether you'd like to import this video directly to your timeline or as a background for a reaction video.

If you import it directly to your timeline, you will have the ability to edit the video in the same way you would any other recording. If imported for a reaction video, the video will be placed behind you, with your selfie camera ready to react.

If you are making a reaction video, remember you can tap the background video to start playing, and tapping again to pause. When you start recording, the video will start at the beginning and loop in the background. If the video plays but you'd like the audio to also be audible, tap the Audio tab and increase the volume of the Media slider.

If you are importing the video to your timeline directly, you can edit it the same as any recording. The same tools – captions, shapes, styles, selections – are all still available.

Download a video from the web by copying and pasting its URL

Alternatively, you can also also copy a video link from your favourite video platform and paste it into Detail:

  1. Copy your link to clipboard

  2. From the library, tap either Reaction video or Import video and choose Import from URL when prompted.

  3. Paste your video in the box and wait for it to be ready.

Download a video from an app or the web using the Detail home screen widget

  1. To add the Detail widget to your home screen, long press your iPhone's background

  2. In the top right, tap Edit, then Add widget. Select the Detail widget size you prefer.

  3. Once your widget is added, you can directly tap "Import" or "Reaction video" from your home screen.

As with all content, we recommend following the legal content guidelines of the site you are importing content from.
